My Stay at the Hana-Maui Resort and Spa in Hawaii

On my trip to Maui, I stayed at the Hana-Maui Resort, one of my favorite hotels EVER. This resort has vintage bungalow and cottage-style rooms, two pools, on-site bike rentals, and one of the best restaurants and sunrise views on the island. So here are my favorite pictures of the Hana-Maui Resort and Spa to inspire your travel plans!

The Ultimate Maui Travel Guide

The best things to do in Maui are driving The Road To Hāna, snorkeling at the Molokini Crater, hiking the Pīpīwai Trail in Haleakalā National Park, and doing a no-doors helicopter tour. If you’re visiting Maui for a honeymoon or couples getaway, check out the most romantic things to do in Maui.

    Frequently Asked Questions
    • What happened to Travaasa Hana?

The Travaasa Hana is now the Hana-Maui Resort, which belongs to Hyatt’s “Destination Hotels” brand.

    • What is the best month to go to Maui?

Maui’s peak travel season is December – March when prices and tourist numbers will be at their highest everywhere on the island. So book your accommodation, rental cars, and tours in advance to ensure availability. These months have the best surfing conditions all year, and this is the prime whale-watching season.

June – August is only slightly less crowded and expensive than December-March. The weather is perfect during these months – sunny and dry. Summer also has calmer currents, giving you ideal swimming conditions.

The year-round warm weather means Maui doesn’t have an off-season. But April – May and September – November are shoulder seasons when you can score some excellent (by Hawaii standards) accommodation and airfare deals.

Driving the Road to Hana is especially pleasant in these shoulder months since there are fewer tourists, and traffic won’t be as much of an issue along the route.

    • Is Hana worth the drive?

Yes! Driving The Road To Hāna is one of the best things to do on Maui. The best stops along this route are the Ho’okipa Beach Park, Wailua Valley State Wayside overlook (take the stairs to the right), Hanawi Falls (bring your swimsuit), Hāna Harvest, and Wai’anapanapa State Park.

Most people who visit Maui stay in the Wailea area and visit Hāna as a day trip. I recommend splitting your trip to spend a couple of nights in Wailea (my favorite hotel is the Andaz Maui), then drive the road to Hāna and stay in Hāna at the Hana-Maui Resort for two nights.

    • Does Travaasa Hana have a beach?

The Hana-Maui Resort (formerly the Travaasa Hana) does not have direct beach access because it’s set on cliffs above the ocean. This hotel has free rental bikes and shuttles for getting to the nearby Hamoa Beach.

    • When was the Hana-Maui Resort built?

The Hana-Maui Resort was built in 1946, and the property retains much of its vintage architecture and charm.

    • How many rooms does Travaasa Hana have?

The Hana-Maui Resort (formerly the Travaasa Hana) has 74 rooms, and most of them are luxurious and spacious bungalows and cottages.

    • Why is the Road to Hana called the divorce highway?

The Road To Hāna has 620 curves and 59 bridges, 46 of which are one-lane bridges, so this can be a stressful and nerve-wracking drive. This is why it’s called the divorce highway because it can cause arguments and tension among couples. The drive really isn’t that bad, though, if you have patience and plenty of time.

    • How long is the Road to Hana drive?

The Road To Hāna is about 65 miles long. Plan on the drive taking your half-a-day one-way.
