This is a “round-up” post based on my experiences and recommendations from Lonely Planet, The Blonde Abroad, and Condé Nast Traveler.
For many parts of the world, November is the first month after the rainy and monsoon seasons – when the weather and temperatures are at their best, and the landscape is at its lushest.
November trips can be fantastic because tourist numbers and prices will be relatively low in most places. You’ll arrive after the peak of Fall crowds and before the holiday rush.
Here are the best destinations to visit in November!
Thailand
Thailand has it all – jungles, beaches, islands, temples, incredible food, fantastic wildlife, and stunning cities. And November is the best month to see it all!
Thailand is also one of the Best Destinations For Solo Female Travelers.
This is the beginning of the dry season, so you’re days should be sunny, with pleasant temperatures and lower humidity. The landscape is stunning after the rainy months, and the air is at some of its cleanest all year.
All of the islands, ferry systems, and inter-country flights and buses are in “full swing.” November is the beginning of the high season, but crowds and prices will still be relatively low until December.
Bora Bora
This is a transition month from the island’s peak season to its rainy season, so November is your best shot to have good weather and find accommodation deals.
Temperatures will be in the mid-70s to mid-80s (23-30°C), there will be fewer tourists and lower prices, and mosquitos are minimal.
Bora Bora and Tahiti are the most popular islands in French Polynesia, but the islands of Mo’orea, Taha’a, and Raiatea are also worth visiting. If accommodation on Bora Bora is out of your price range, then you could stay on one of the nearby islands and visit Bora Bora as a day trip.
Athens, Greece
In November, tourists are few and far between in Athens; it’ll practically feel like you have the city to yourself.
Athens can be miserably hot from late-Spring to early-Fall, so November gives you ideal temperatures in the 50s-60s (10-16°C) and clear skies. You’ll want layers in the mornings and evenings, but you’ll warm up once you start walking around and exploring the city.
You’ll be able to visit the ruins and famous sites without competing with hordes of tourists!
Maldives
November is the last month of the low season, so there will still be some chances of rain, but it will be warm and sunny with low humidity.
Accommodation prices and crowds will be some of their lowest all year, but I still recommend searching for hotel deals and booking ahead. The Maldives is also considered a valuable destination for using your Hotel Loyalty Points.
Please be aware that the Maldives is a Muslim country, so when you’re outside your resort, you need to dress appropriately and conservatively, especially if you’re in the capital city of Malé or visiting one of the other inhabited islands.
Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon
Autumn is a wonderful time to visit Las Vegas and to road trip to the nearby Grand Canyon. Temperatures will be in the 50s-60s (10-16°C), it’ll be sunny and clear, and the tourist numbers and prices will be relatively low.
Reasons To Visit Las Vegas
Spring is a wonderful time to visit Las Vegas. The city will be sunny and cool, and if you avoid the Spring Break weeks, the crowds will be manageable. I highly recommend visiting Valley of Fire State Park when you’re in Vegas, and I’ve rounded up the best hotels and vacation homes in the area. I’ve also got the top things to do in Vegas for a birthday trip, romantic getaway, girls’ trip, and bachelorette party.
Iceland
You’re never guaranteed to see the Northern Lights, but November’s dark winter nights give you one of your best chances to see this natural wonder in Iceland. The more remote a place you stay or go, the better your chances are.
I recommend renting a car or hiring a driver to explore the island’s lagoons, waterfalls, and coastlines.
Temperatures will be in the high 20s and 30s (-2-4°C), so you can experience all of the country’s snow sports and landscapes without the much colder temperatures that will come later in the Winter.
Cambodia
This is the beginning of the high season in Cambodia, but even in peak months, Cambodia is relatively inexpensive and un-crowded. While most travelers flock to Thailand or Indonesia, you can head here for fantastic food, gorgeous coastlines, and incredible temples.
November is the start of the dry season, but morning showers can still be common early in the month. The landscape will be lush and vibrant from the recent rains, the humidity will be low, and it should be sunny most days.
