Thanks to Yellowstone National Park Xanterra Lodges for hosting me during my stay. As always, the thoughts and opinions expressed in this post are entirely my own.
On my recent trip to Yellowstone, I stayed at The Old Faithful Inn, one of the world’s most iconic national park hotels. The Old Faithful Inn is one of nine Xanterra properties inside Yellowstone National Park, and the best thing you can do when you visit Yellowstone is to stay at one or more of these lodges!
Yellowstone National Park Guide
I’ve stayed at other Xanterra properties around the country, and there is no better way to experience a national park than with Xanterra.
Here’s why you should stay at Yellowstone National Park Xanterra Lodges!
Reasons To Stay at a Xanterra Lodge
Each of the nine Yellowstone National Park Lodges is designed to blend in with nature, honor the park’s history, prioritize eco-travel sustainability practices, and provide modern comfort to guests. These accommodations also operate the best guided tours in the park.
Staying at these lodges allows you to maximize your time in Yellowstone. You won’t have to drive in and out of the park every day, allowing you to beat some of the crowds to the popular hikes, overlooks, and scenic drives. When you stay at one of these properties, you can also experience the park after dark without having to drive at night.
One of my favorite parts about staying at these lodges is that you’re almost guaranteed to see wildlife outside your room at some point during your stay!
These properties are where the gas stations, restaurants, and stores are inside the park. So since you’ll need to come to these lodging areas throughout your trip, the most convenient option is to stay at one of these properties.
I recommend staying at 2-3 of these accommodations during your trip to thoroughly explore different parts of the park and reduce your driving times. For example, if you spend five nights in the park, you could stay two nights at The Old Faithful Inn, one at Canyon Lodge & Cabins, and two at Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel & Cabins.
These properties fill up fast, so book as far in advance as possible. Trust me, they’re worth it!
Old Faithful Inn
This Inn was built from 1903-1904 with local logs and stone, and it’s one of the largest log-style structures in the world. There’s live music every night in the lobby, a fabulous old-world restaurant and bar, and the accommodations range from modern suites to historic rooms with shared bathrooms in the hallway.
Old Faithful Snow Lodge & Cabins
Completed in 1999, the Snow Lodge is one of the newer full-service hotels in the park and has been recognized with the Cody Award for Western Design and Travel and Leisure’s Inn of the Month. If you visit Yellowstone in the Winter, this is one of your only accommodation options.
Old Faithful Lodge & Cabins
This historic cabin facility is near Old Faithful Inn and includes a one-story main lodge built in the 1920′s featuring massive logs and stone pillars. Plus, your furry friends can stay with you here!
Canyon Lodge & Cabins
Canyon Lodge and Cabins is a sprawling facility featuring the most accommodations in Yellowstone, with more than 500 rooms and cabins. This is the best home base for exploring the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and Hayden Valley (home to some of the best wildlife viewing in the park).
Lake Lodge Cabins
These detached, semi-private cabins are the perfect national park oasis on the bank of Yellowstone Lake. The main lodge has a couple of dining options and common areas to enjoy the views.
Lake Yellowstone Hotel & Cabins
Lake Yellowstone Hotel & Cabins
This iconic yellow hotel is the oldest operating accommodation in the park. Its massive white columns transport you back to an era of classic yet casual elegance. You’ll love the lake views, multiple eating options, live music, and bar.
Grant Village
Located near the West Thumb of Yellowstone Lake, Grant Village’s lodging complex features six guest room buildings, a full-service restaurant, a lakeside restaurant with a casual menu, a lounge, and a gift store. This is the closest hotel to Grand Teton National Park if you want to visit Yellowstone and Grand Teton on the same trip.
Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel & Cabins
This hotel is at Yellowstone’s northern entrance. You can stay in traditional hotel rooms or semi-detached cabins, and if you’re visiting in the winter, this is one of your only accommodation options for the snow season.
Roosevelt Lodge Cabins
Roosevelt Lodge Cabins, built-in 1920 in Yellowstone’s Tower Fall area, is located near a campsite once used by President Theodore Roosevelt. This lodge is famous for its stagecoach rides and proximity to Lamar Valley, home of the best wildlife viewing in the park.
