When To Go

Spring is my favorite time to visit Dallas. The Bluebonnets will be blooming, the humidity will still be low, and the temperatures will be pleasant – not too hot during the day and still cool in the evenings. Spring Break weeks see higher accommodation prices, but the rest of the season can have some hotel deals. Spring is the wettest time of the year, so bring your rain gear because the rain keeps the temperatures pleasant and the landscapes lush.

Dallas summers are extremely hot and humid, so be prepared if you visit in the peak summer months. Always have water, sunscreen, and a head covering with you, and plan indoor activities or pool time during the middle of the day. Accommodation and tour rates peak in the summer, so book in advance to save some money. The Taste of Dallas food festival is in June, and this is an incredible city for the Fourth of July celebrations.

September – November is an enjoyable time to visit Dallas. The weather will be cooler, drier, and less humid than in the spring or summer. Accommodation prices and crowds will decline, and the Texas State Fair is in full swing. Be aware, though, that The Cowboys football season can drive hotel prices up, so check the team’s home game schedule. And if you’re visiting Dallas specifically to see The Cowboys, then book your accommodation ahead of time for lower rates.

Winter is surprisingly cold, with daytime highs in the 50s and low 60s. Dallas usually gets some snow every year, and below-freezing temperatures aren’t unheard of. So bring plenty of layers. You can find some great accommodation deals during these months. And if you’re here in January or February, you should check out the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo.

Where To Stay

Dallas has some incredible hotels for every budget and preference. From the old Hollywood vibes at Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek to the chic and trendy The Joule to the modern Omni Dallas Hotel, I’ve rounded up the best hotels in Dallas.

If you’re bringing an RV, I suggest Dallas Shady Oaks RV Park or Sandy Lake MH & RV Resort. Dallas also has some dreamy vacation homes.

Best Day Trips

Fort Worth. Fort Worth often gets lumped in with Dallas, but these cities are wildly different. You’ll want to watch one of the two daily cattle drives (11:30 am and 4:00 pm) in the Fort Worth Stockyards and grab a bite to eat in Sundance Square. Fort Worth is also home to Billy Bob’s Texas, the world’s largest Honky Tonk. And if you’re visiting on a Friday or Saturday, The Fort Worth Stockyards hosts the world’s only year-round rodeo.

Waco. Made famous by Baylor University and the HGTV show Fixer Upper, Waco is the perfect getaway from Dallas. You’ll want to visit Magnolia Market, tour the Dr. Pepper Museum, explore Austin Avenue, have a scoop (or two or three!) at Heritage Creamery, and walk across the Suspension Bridge.

Ennis Bluebonnet Trails. If you’re in Dallas in April, then you’ll want to spend half a day driving the Bluebonnet Trails in Ennis. This is one of the best flower displays in The United States! The Ennis Welcome Center has daily updates and maps for the best bluebonnet sightings.
