Thanks to The Benson for hosting me during my stay. As always, the thoughts and opinions expressed here are entirely my own.
Portland is one of my favorite cities in the Pacific Northwest! From stunning urban parks to amazing food and drinks to its proximity to Mt. Hood, this Pacific Northwest getaway has it all.
On my first trip to Portland, I opted to stay at The Benson, a historic, elegant hotel that sets the standard for luxury hotels in the United States.
Here’s what it’s like staying at The Benson, the best hotel in Portland!
The Benson, Curio Collection by Hilton
This European-style hotel was built in 1913, and it’s hosted celebrities, CEOs, dignitaries, and quite a few U.S. presidents. The hotel’s lower three levels, which house the lobby, restaurants, and event spaces, are decorated with Italian marble floors, Austrian crystal chandeliers, and Circassian walnut wood from the imperial forests of Russia.
The Benson is one of the most unique, ornate, beautiful, and Instagrammable hotels you’ll find in the Pacific United States!
In addition to its 287 guest rooms, the property has a Business Center, Valet Parking, Fitness Center, and The Palm Court dining area in the stunning lobby. This is also a pet-friendly hotel, so you can bring your furry friends along!
The overall atmosphere of this hotel is elegant, and the amenities and features of The Benson have a formal, but modern, “feel.” Personally, this hotel was exactly the kind of place I want to stay in – safe, secure, well-located, unique, and historic.
This hotel also has around 20 event spaces for hosting everything from an intimate wedding in The London Grill to banquets in the Mayfair Ballroom, or a luxury girl’s night in the Wine Cellar. This four-star hotel is a perfect place to host an event, or to treat yourself for a few nights.
The Rooms
The Benson has king and queen rooms, all with views of the surrounding Pearl District. All the rooms are modern with exquisite finishes. Glass-topped bedside tables and desks, wood accents, plush carpet and accessories, white walls, and beautiful artwork give the rooms a minimalistic feel while still being very inviting and warm.
Every inch of the rooms and bathrooms seems brand new, like you’re the first person to stay there.
For even more luxury, you can upgrade to the larger Junior and Executive suites. For the best view in the hotel, opt for the Benson Broadway suite. And if you want to go all-out during your stay, you’ve got the Penthouse Suites, Family Penthouse Suite, and The Presidential Suite (where U.S. presidents have stayed!).
Food & Drink
The Benson has a couple of different dining options. There’s The Palm Court dine-in restaurant on the magnificently decorated first floor (pictured above). And you can have The Palm Court food delivered to your room. Plus, there’s live jazz music Wednesday-Saturday.
There’s also El Gaucho Steakhouse located next to The Benson in the same building. El Gaucho is for anyone who likes cigars, cocktails, live flamenco guitar music, or superb table-side service.
The Benson is near some of the city’s best dining, so you’re within walking distance of almost any kind of food you could want.
The Location
The Benson is in Portland’s trendy Pearl District, just minutes (via walking) from Powell’s Books, the Pioneer Courthouse Square, the Portland Oregon White Stag Sign, Portlandia Statue, and some of the best shopping and dining in the city.
You couldn’t be more conveniently located in the city than at The Benson!
The Japanese Garden, Pittock Mansion, Forest Park, and Cathedral Park (pictured above) are only a few miles from The Benson. This hotel is also conveniently accessible by MAX (the Light Rail) and trolley for getting around the city.
