Scottsdale and Phoenix are two of the best getaways in the Southwest U.S. because these side-by-side cities are perfect for adventure and relaxation. I visited Scottsdale and Phoenix as part of an Arizona road trip, and I hope to return soon. So here are some of my favorite pictures of Scottsdale, Arizona, to inspire your travel plans!

The Ultimate Scottsdale & Phoenix Travel Guide

On my trip to Scottsdale, I stayed at The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa, one of my favorite hotels EVER. Whether you want an incredible vacation home or a stunning hotel, I’ve got the perfect accommodation for you.

My top recommendations for Scottsdale are to go on a sunset horseback ride in the Sonoran Desert, sample local wine at a couple of vineyards, have a spa day, explore Old Town Scottsdale, visit the Desert Botanical Garden, and play a round (or two!) of golf.

Frequently Asked Questions
  • What is special about Scottsdale, AZ?

Scottsdale and Phoenix are famous for their golf courses, resorts, wellness retreats, and the Sonoran Desert.

These desert cities are next door to each other (about 12 miles and a 20-minute drive), so it’s easy to visit them both in one trip.

  • Does it snow in Scottsdale Arizona?

No. Scottsdale averages zero inches of snow a year.

November – April has the best weather all year. Scottsdale and Phoenix will have daytime temperatures ranging from the high 60s to the low-80s, perfect for exploring these desert cities. But these months are the most crowded and expensive. So book your accommodation and tours in advance to ensure availability and save some money, especially in March and April when the cities peak during Spring Break weeks.

July – September is the low season because the temperatures will be in the 100s, and these are the wettest and most humid months of the year. You can score some great hotel and tour deals during these months, though. Just be sure to hike early in the morning and choose accommodation with a pool!

May, June, and October are the shoulder months. Daytime temperatures will be warm but manageable in the 90s, and the crowds and prices will be less than in the peak winter months.

  • Is Scottsdale a rich area?

Yes. Scottsdale is a relatively affluent place to live and visit.

Historic downtown Scottsdale is very walkable, but the rest of these cities are spread out and require a car or public transportation.

  • Is Phoenix or Scottsdale better?

Tucson and Phoenix are both incredible destinations that give you similar experiences. So I highly recommend visiting both of these cities in one trip!

Yes. Scottsdale is a relatively expensive place to live and visit.

  • Is Scottsdale a good place to live?

Scottsdale is considered a very safe and desirable city to live in.

If you’re a tourist, give yourself at least 4-5 days to explore Phoenix and Scottsdale. This will give you plenty of time to explore their downtowns, enjoy the food scene, go on some hikes, and take a day trip.

  • Why is Scottsdale so popular?

The Best Things To Do in Scottsdale:

    2. Sample local wine at a couple of vineyards – my favorites are Merkin Vineyards and Caduceus Cellars, LDV Winery, Salvatore Vineyards, Carlson Creek Vineyard, and Aridus Vineyards.

    3. Spend at least half a day exploring Papago Park.

    4. Visit the Desert Botanical Garden.

    5. Hike Camelback Mountain.
