Staying at The State Hotel: the best hotel in Seattle

Thanks to The State Hotel for hosting me during my stay. As always, the thoughts and opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

Seattle was my home for four years, so I know this Pacific Northwest city inside and out. From coffee and seafood to gorgeous parks, to Mt. Rainier and Olympic National Park, Seattle has something for everyone!

And when you’re planning your trip, accommodation is one of the most important things to consider. On my last trip to Seattle, I stayed at The State Hotel, a luxury boutique hotel steps from Pike Place Market and Seattle’s waterfront.

The State Hotel’s landmark building is an Instagram paradise, and the location is perfect. It’s great for a solo trip or a romantic getaway.

Here’s my experience staying at The State Hotel!

The State Hotel

This historic property features 91 guest rooms, along with a rooftop deck, the delicious Ben Paris restaurant, four event spaces, and one of the most inviting lobbies I’ve encountered. A Condé Nast fave, this reasonably priced and ideally located hotel is the perfect urban oasis.

The State Hotel is also dog-friendly, so you can bring your furry friends!

Colorful, bold, and modern is how I would describe The State Hotel. Yet the architecture remains true to its original industrial aesthetic as an office building from the early 1900s. Local artwork adorns every wall, and The Alcove – with its plush couches, bookshelves, and wall art of doorknobs and lights – beckons you to sit and relax every time you walk past it.

The overall atmosphere of the property is artistic, eclectic, and trendy, and the amenities and features offer a modern and minimalist feel. Every inch of this hotel is Instagram-perfect. The State Hotel was completely my style, and I love staying in a hotel that fuels my creativity.

The Rooms

The State Hotel has king and queen rooms facing either the Puget Sound or downtown. All the rooms are minimalistic and modern with exquisite finishes. Marble-topped bedside tables, brass accents, leather headboards and accessories, white walls, and wood and navy accents give the rooms an industrial feel while still being very inviting and warm.

The bathrooms are superb with floor to ceiling tile, plenty of shelf and hanging space, and quirky work-out style bathrobes. Every inch of the room seems brand new like you’re the first person to stay there.

If you want an even more luxurious accommodation, you can opt for The Terrace Suite or The Rooftop + Terrace Suite.

Food & Drink

The State Hotel’s pride and joy is the Ben Paris restaurant. Guests and locals flock to this chic and casual dining spot, which offers unique “spins” on traditional American cuisine.

My favorite dishes were the Buttermilk Fried Chicken, Ben Paris Cobb, and Copper River Sockeye Salmon. Ben Paris also has an incredible brunch menu on the weekends, and I recommend the Ricotta Pancakes, Hand Pie, and Avocado Toast!

The real show-stopper of the Ben Paris restaurant, though, is the cocktail menu. Drinks here are ambitious “twists” on traditional cocktails. Ben Paris cocktails are for adventurous drinkers who want to try something completely different than any drink they’ve ever had.

My favorite drink was the Seattle Sour – whiskey, passion fruit, damiana, lemon, Marionberry cider – an unusual (and delicious!) take on a whiskey sour.

The Location

The State Hotel is located minutes (via walking) from Pike Place Market, The Seattle Art Museum, the waterfront, Post Alley, The Seattle Great Wheel, and some of the best shopping and dining in the city.

You can’t get more “in the heart of Seattle” than The State Hotel!

The Space Needle and Pioneer Square are only about a mile from The State Hotel, there are ample bus stops right outside to transport you anywhere in the city, and the Seattle Monorail is only a couple blocks away.
